Our Country's Good

by Timberlake Wertenbaker

Set in the late 1700s, in the yet-to-be-named Australia, this gritty comedy-drama follows the officers and convicts as they come to grips with their new realities. When one of the officers makes a request to put on a play using the convicts as actors, it creates turmoil amongst the officers. Should prisoners be punished or given the chance to act in a ‘frippery play’? But the play transforms both the officers and convicts in unexpected and often hilarious ways.

Our Country's Good is covered in accolades, including the 1988 Laurence Olivier award for Play of the Year, a 1991 Tony Nomination for Best Play, and a 1991 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Foreign Play.

Pride and Prejudice

by Jane Austen

adapted for the stage by Helen Jerome

Help us celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth with a performance of her most beloved novel at Chatsworth House. As the house has been used to represent the residence of that famous heartthrob, Mr Darcy, it seemed only fitting that we bring Mr Darcy to audiences at Chatsworth in 2025.

Tickets will sell out quickly for this one, so make sure you're on our mailing list or follow us on social media to be notified when they're on sale.

Performances will be in March at The Theatre at Chatsworth House.

The Merry Wives of Windsor

by William Shakespeare

Double-meanings, disguises, dirty laundry, a Welsh windbag and a French doctor abound as Sir John Falstaff sets about improving his financial situation by wooing Mistress Page and Mistress Ford. But the ‘Merry Wives’ quickly cotton on to his tricks and decide to have a bit of fun of their own at Falstaff’s expense… Merry Wives is an absolute hoot!

Tradition has it that The Merry Wives of Windsor was written at the request of Queen Elizabeth I. After watching Henry IV Part I, she asked Shakespeare to write a play showing Falstaff in love…

July 10 - 19 at open-air venues across Derbyshire and Sheffield.
